Our History

The Rose Family’s roots run deep at the family farm in Morgan, UT. The family has been farming the same property since it was settled in 1874. Today, the 5th generation of Roses operates the farm and is committed to maintaining the legacy and traditions of producing high-quality dairy products that were established in previous generations. Aaron & Lisa Rose, with their four growing children, started the Milk Barn Creamery to provide farm fresh raw milk products to the public. They are thankful to the many wonderful friends and customers who have supported them throughout the years.

August Edward Rose

Our farm (Rose Family Farm) has been passed down from generation to generation since it was settled in 1874 by August Edward Rose. He was his parent’s only child to survive as they immigrated to the United States from Sweden in 1865 after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He married the daughter of a brick maker and settled on a farm next to his father-in-law’s brick kiln.

Parley Rose

August passed the farm to his son Parley. Parley was a craftsman. We stack hay today in barns that he built 100 years ago. They stand strong when others around the valley from the same era are tumbling.

Otis Rose

Parley passed the farm to Otis. Otis was a healer. His generally gentle tone and nature made you comfortable to be around him. He quietly cared for those around him. He always put others’ needs ahead of his own.

Rodney Rose

Otis passed the farm to Rodney. Rodney is dedicated. It was during this generation that the primary purpose of the farm transformed from supporting a family to shaping a family. The farm was too small to support the family financially, so Rodney went to work off the farm to provide for his family and cared for the farm on the side. This made for long days of starting chores around 5 AM, rushing to be to work by 8 AM, and then rushing home at the end of the workday to put in another 3-4 hours of work on the dairy.

The workload was unsustainable, and Rodney began to gradually reduce the size of the dairy herd beginning in 2010. By 2013, there were only two milk cows left on the farm to provide the family with fresh milk.

Sold first jugs of milk

Not wanting to let the legacy die, the family explored an opportunity to bottle and sell raw milk directly to consumers from the farm. Our first jugs of milk were sold in November 2014. The decision to create a niche market has saved our farm and dairy legacy.

Today

Today, the dairy operation has transitioned to the next generation. More than anything, we continue our farming legacy because we want to pass on the experiences, lessons, and values that have blessed our lives to our children. We also hope that we can share that with our friends and neighbors.

We don’t just sell dairy products; we share the best that we have to offer with each person who visits our farm: our heritage. We hope you will come experience the farm yourself and invite your family and friends to do the same.
